A first-class passenger train drifts through the big curve.

The Mon Valley Railroad Club formed in 1987 with just a handful of members. The group has grown to more than 25 members and occupies nearly 2500 square feet of a basement in downtown Morgantown, W. Va. Meetings are held each Thursday night at 7:00 p.m., under the Black Bear Cafe at 128 Pleasant Street. Parking is available in the small parking garage beside the building, or just up the street behind the bank. Visiting model railroaders and interested hobbyists are welcome to drop by on Thursday evenings. Be ready to help with a current project.

Summer Open House a Success!

The Mon Valley Railroad Club of West Virginia thanks all the visitors who made our July Open House a big hit. It was a pleasure to show our model railroad to the community, make new acquaintances, and renew old friendships.

Our next public appearance will be over the Labor Day weekend in Rowlesburg, West Virginia, September 4, 5 & 6. It's a great event to celebrate the people and heritage of this old railroad town. Our group will have an HO scale model railroad on display in the ambulance building. A group from the metro-DC area will display an N scale layout. Just outside the doors of the ambulance building is the old B&O main line that sees regular CSX service. Come on out to Rowlesburg on Labor day weekend to see trains of all sizes. The Rowlesburg depot museum and caboose will also be open and there are many activities through the weekend. See you there!

Additional Upcoming Events

In November we will have a model railroad on display for a weekend of Mountaineer Week in the WVU Mountainlair.

December Open House dates will be announced soon!

A layout tour has recently been added to our website. Ten pages of text, many new images, and several diagrams will carry you along our HO scale mainline to illustrate our project. Go to the Layout page to begin.

Our group has abided by two missions over the years.

  • to build an HO scale model railroad that none of our members could build alone
  • to learn from each other in order to advance individual skills and abilities.

Drop a line at 43admin@hansmanns.org for more details, or if you are coming through town and would like to visit. We can't guarantee a visit, but we will try to have the door open for you.
